I have known Steven since we met in art class in high school back in 1981.  His exploration into areas of art then and now are only surpassed by his exploration into the quintessential elements of the artistic vision of life in and of itself. I see that his creative use of resources and implementation of his well developed vision actually fuels his success.

As a professional artist today, Steven still has the excitement of a giddy school boy after all these years that I have rarely seen matched by someone of his maturity.  I can respect greatly someone like Steven who is very much into the artistic process itself and the love of discovery like the other crucial searching/ discovery aspects of his life.  To still show such a zest and enthusiasm for the nuts and bolts aspects of the craft is rare.

Steven has developed a very technically disciplined approach to matters that require a phenomenal amount of information and know how with countless tools and techniques which have required time and attention to detail in order to master.  Yet he uses these techniques in a creative way that is not overly technical. I think that is where the real strength of Steven's art lies.  He takes the extremely technical, and with his creativity and vision succeeds in making it dance with playfulness in an eloquent manner like few masters could duplicate successfully.

I feel that only an artist's love of the medium alone can render results like that and there is no question in my mind that Steven loves and embraces the artistic process in and of itself.  To have such skills and still maintain the zest, interest, and freshness to administer them effectively and achieve oustounding artistic results is a special gift.
